BEACH HAVEN is an ideal coastal retreat for a couple or creative individual seeking a quiet space in which to live for three to six months, located above Dillon Beach, in West Marin County, California, a one-hour drive north from San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. The lively town of Petaluma is twenty minutes inland.

BEACH HAVEN has views of the Pacific Ocean, and you look directly across to the mouth of Tomales Bay from the generous deck and back gardens. You see Bodega Head and Bodgea Bay, 14 miles to the north, from the kitchen window and the front porch.

This owner-designed, 1400 square-foot home is situated 1000 feet back from the beach up on a huge hill, and is one of the very few homes here with lush gardens and bushes surrounding the back yard, including two ponds, for privacy and wind protection. There is a small gazebo in the garden where guests can picnic, or occasionally nap or sleep. It’s a ten-minute walk down to the beach. The neighborhood is exceptionally quiet, conducive to study, painting, music, and rest. Beach Haven is also perfect for picnics and small dinner parties.

However, no rock-out parties can be permitted. In fact, there is no on-street parking in this private, patrolled neighborhood. The driveway can accommodate four cars.

The master bedroom is a loft up a spiral staircase above the living room in this open-design home. There are doors only on the two bathrooms, the closets, and at the entry to the master bath, and the small back art studio room.

There is a comfortable, semi-private guest space on the main level, with a double-bed, plus a comfortable futon for one, in the art studio next to the master bath.

The beach itself is approximately two miles long, is exceptionally clean, and you will enjoy it alone there, or see a few people and a few dogs. (It can be crowded in peak seasons, such as in summer months, and especially around the Fourth of July). There is wharf and boat fishing at Lawson’s Landing, two miles away, at the southern end of our beach. Some serious skin-diving and scuba diving goes on here, but the waters are cold. Clean, but cold.

Included: Cable TV (one TV set is upstairs in the master bedroom, and the other TV set is in the back studio room), which you can upgrade at your expense; local telephone service; garbage service; gardening service. Your non-local telephone use can be deducted monthly from your security deposit.

You will be expected to water the many indoor plants. Our maid will do so whenever she is here.

If you are so inclined, the owners will appreciate it if you will feed the outdoor cats now and then. We will pay for all food and any veterinarian bills, within reason. These two very tame animals may come into the house if you want them to. They behave very well, and if locked in, will use the litter box in the garage, by using the cat door in the door to the garage. These cats, Leche and Tiger—both fixed males who are tame and never spray—are not your responsibility, unless you want them to be. You are free to ignore these two cats—who are great buddies—and they will roam elsewhere.

Our gardener will visit every couple of weeks at no extra charge. Renters pay our local maid directly upon each visit, to be arranged. The final maid service will be paid for by the owners.
